Members of the Flying Geckos enjoy a wide range of benefits together with a structured developmental programme which is designed to help the enjoy their climbing to the full, and to reach their true potential.

Members must have a belay license from the YMCA Adventure Centre…. 10- 12 years (Peak Panthers) or 13+ complete a belay induction.
Members must be a minimum of 10 years old to join.
There is a general expectation that members do progress through the various squads (there is plenty of leeway given for varying rate of progress!); i.e. while the social aspect of how the club operates makes it enjoyable, it is not intended to be purely a club for “social climbing”. We have a limited number of volunteers and the volunteers are there to assist members wanting to progress, so the expectation is that members move upwards/out of the way to allow other members to follow through afterwards.
Flying Geckos club fees are only:
- Joining Fee – $20 (one off)
- Term Fee – $15 per term (reminders for this are sent each term)
Club membership includes use of club equipment (shoes, harnesses, ropes and quickdraws) and instruction and coaching by our trained club volunteers.
Please note that these fees do not cover the cost of entry to the YMCA Climbing Centre or any other facility we might visit. We recommend members purchase 10 session passes to obtain the maximum discounted rate that the club has negotiated with the YMCA. ($10 per entry or $85 for a 10 session pass), or work towards attaining a YMCA scholarship for committed climbers.

We only take new members at the start of each school term (and a maximum of approximately 20 new members per term). Completed expressions of interest are requested before the end of the term prior to assist with planning.
